Which Halloween Look Should I Wear?

Parker Dickens - Tuesday, October 08, 2019

Halloween is just around the corner and it’s time to start planning your look! Do you love makeup and beauty but not sure how to put it all together? Complete our quiz and get some inspiration for the most boo-tiful costume that matches your personality!

Tips to Looking Flawless

Creating an unforgettable Halloween look can be easier than you think! Check out our tips for a stress-free and memorable costume. Find what works for you and own it!

Be Bold

Halloween isn’t a time to be subtle. Whether you’re dressing up for laughs or screams, embrace it and don’t hold back! Group costumes are a great way to go. Or if you don’t like to share the spotlight, stand out as a movie character, parody, or hilarious pun.

Remember the inflatable T-Rex costumes we saw last year? Think outside the box and people will be talking about your costume next Halloween.

Break Out the Glitter

Bring out all the glitter, sequins, heels, and outfits! Dress up as a celebrity, witch, angel, or the undead. The fun part about Halloween is you can turn just about anything into a girly costume. Feel confident and gorgeous this year with a cute outfit and full glam.

Let Your Makeup Do the Talking

Don’t worry if you haven’t had time to find the perfect outfit for your costume. Keep your costume to a minimum and focus on your hair and makeup! With what you have in your makeup bag you can create a flirty and fabulous look. Think skeletons, pumpkins, or fashion icons! YouTube is a great place to go for ideas and killer makeup tutorials.

Less Is More

You don’t have to spend all month or a fortune on planning your look. Animals can be a great costume and don’t take much to pull together. With a brown shirt and some eyeliner, you can transform into a darling deer. Or, become a charming black cat with some ears and drawn-on whiskers.

Now that you have some incredible ideas, it’s time to get your costume together. We can’t wait to see what you come up with! Tag us on Instagram to share your looks!

5 Reasons Why You Should Become a Cosmetologist

Parker Dickens - Friday, September 20, 2019
No matter if you’ve just graduated high school or you’re looking to change your career, it’s never too late to start pursuing a future you feel passionate about. If you’ve always loved beauty and helping others feel good, then a career as a cosmetologist could be a great option for you! Read our blog to find 5 reasons why you should become a cosmetologist!

The Career Options are Vast
A popular misconception of the beauty industry is that the only career option available will be in a typical beauty salon. While there are a lot of cosmetologists who thrive in a salon setting, it’s far from the only career that could be available to you! The beauty industry is constantly growing and that means new job opportunities in beauty! With people depending on beauty professionals to provide them with the latest styles, there are even career options in this industry that have only become available in recent years. It all depends on you and what kind of future you want to make for yourself! Here are just some jobs you could have as a cosmetologist:

Become a Leader
Have you wanted a career that would allow you to one day manage and own a business of your own? Cosmetology could be the perfect way to combine your passions of business and beauty! In fact, at Michael K. Galvin Beauty & Business Academy we make it a top priority to teach students the latest techniques in both beauty and business skills. We know the importance that business has on this industry and we want to prepare our students for whatever career they want to pursue.

The Industry is Growing
With so many job opportunities available in beauty, it’s no wonder that the industry is growing so fast! According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job outlook for cosmetologists is expected to grow 8% from 2018 to 2028. This sense of job security is an amazing feeling and can give you the confidence to pursue a future you love!

Unleash Your Creativity
Have you always wanted a career where you can continually challenge your creativity in new ways? One of the best parts about the beauty industry is that there are always new trends. To be a successful cosmetologist, you need to be able to pay attention to these styles while also incorporating your own personal look for each client. It’s a great way to express yourself! Plus, seeing someone smile at their new style that you were able to give them is a dream come true for an artist. When you see that you were able to give them a confidence boost, it could give you a sense of purpose that you’re making a positive difference in people’s lives.

Flexible Scheduling
For many people, a career with a conventional 9-5 office schedule doesn’t sound like a future that would be a great fit for them. This schedule can seem especially restrictive for people who have to juggle other life responsibilities and priorities. That’s why a future in cosmetology can be the perfect chance for someone who wants to create their own schedule! Depending on your specific circumstance, you could have the opportunity to choose when and where you work. It’s always nice to know that you can plan your schedule to accommodate your everyday commitments.

How to Become a Cosmetologist in Rhode Island

Parker Dickens - Tuesday, July 02, 2019

  1. 1. Get an education!
  2. 2. Get licensed!
  3. 3. Pursue the future you’ve created!

1. Get an Education
To create beauty, you have to learn beautifully. Start off your journey to becoming a beauty pro by choosing to get an education from a school you trust and love.

H How to Choose a School
There are a lot of options for getting a beauty education. How do you narrow it down? Take a tour! Choose a handful of schools in your area and book a tour of the campus. A tour is the perfect way to find out if a school is a good fit for you. While you’re on your tour, ask questions! Here are a few to get you started.

Want to book your tour of Michael K. Galvin Beauty & Business Academy? Click here!

What Does Your Cosmetology Curriculum Offer?

Find a school that offers a cosmetology program that offers what you actually want to learn. Not only should the school teach you practical skills, but they should cover the theory of cosmetology. You need to know the foundations of what you’ll be practicing.

You’ll want to look for a school that is helping you prepare for life after graduation. Schools that offer teachings in job training, interviews, and marketing yourself should top your list!

Here at MKG Beauty & Business Academy, we prioritize the individual. That means we understand that each student has their own goals and passions. We also understand that today’s beauty pros must have a standard of education backing them in order to be successful. That’s why we strive to keep our cosmetology curriculum up to date and packed with the latest trends.

Will I Fit In?

Will you thrive at the school of your choice? This is something to consider when you’re assessing culture fit. Take a look at the school’s social media accounts, their blog, and even ask current and past students what their experiences were like

During your tour, take note on what the school’s environment is like. Get to know the person taking you on a tour, they can help you figure out if it’s the school for you!

At MKG Beauty & Business Academy, we want each student to do well, and we want them to be themselves while they do it. If you’re unique, driven, and eager to learn, our school might be the perfect fit for you!

What Does a Day in the Life Look Like?

What will you do every day? Will you get to practice in the student salon? When does that begin? There are so many fun things to do in beauty school! You can find out more about what it looks like to move through the phases of school by asking about the timeline for skill achievement and graduation.

How Will I Fund My Future?

OK, so you’ve asked all the questions about fitting in, making sure the program offers the education you need, and you’re almost ready to commit. Congrats! The biggest problem students have with finally enrolling is a financial one. How will you pay for school?

Ask the schools you tour if they offer financial aid, scholarships, or other forms of financial assistance. Some schools even have payment plans!

Don’t quit your dream because of financial roadblocks!

MKG Beauty & Business Academy offers financial aid to those who qualify, and we offer payment plans! Our team wants to help you become the cosmetologist you’ve always dreamed you’d be!

Salon Cosmetologist
If you love working one-on-one, helping others, and like to work in energetic environments, consider looking for a job in a salon! Salons allow you to work side-by-side with other professionals while achieving personal success with your clients. Another great reason to consider the salon life is the menu of services you can offer! Each salon has its own flavor, which means they may specialize in one area of cosmetology or in all areas! What will you do in a salon?

Freelance

Do you want to set your own schedule and be your own boss? Consider going freelance! Whether you’re attending to brides on their special days or just taking a handful of exclusive guests, your future is up to you to design as a freelancer.

Platform Artist

If you have a passion for a specific brand, you may want to consider getting your start in the business side of beauty. Many big name brands have their own teams of stylists who test products before launch or demonstrate them on stage at the trendiest beauty expos. If you’re ready to rock the stage, consider this career!
